Art Car

Art Car was developed from the collaboration of two very creative people that both love experimenting but are brave enough to risk and express that creativity. The idea was to paint a Fiat 500 from the 1970’s and make the entire car into a work of art. A moving, one of a kind piece of abstract art that would demonstrate individuality, creativity, joy, and a rainbow of colors to all that it would encounter. I was told before painting the car that it was intentionally bought only for the parts and that it was supposed to be taken apart. Luckily, something blocked the owner from dismantling it and he decided that it would be kept even though the purpose of the car was not yet clear to him. I was told that it was a car with personal significance of friendship, disagreements, and of perseverance. In some strange way, the beat up car seemed to physically represent all of these different aspects when I started to look at it more carefully. The car wasn’t perfect with dents and defects but it was very much alive, reminding me of how even we as humans aren’t perfect but we all have a story to tell. I was also told that the car was initially supposed to be yellow which surprised me since it is such a bright color for an automobile. That is when I started to see the car with the initial part being yellow, as it was supposed to be, but then slowly transforming into a rainbow of colors. A car where the defects were amplified with gold and spray paint so that they were no longer perceived as something negative but instead as scars of beauty and of a life lived well. As an artist I was very lucky to have the possibility to express myself completely with no limits as to what I could and could not paint or as to what colors I could or could not use. It is now a car that knows no limits, free to be colorful and be enjoyed by all, allowing the viewer to explore the possibility that an everyday object like a car can be used in a practical way but with a change of perspective that object can also be a work of art.
